Kevin Walsh is a 22-year veteran instructor of Video Production and Language Arts at West Bloomfield High School in West Bloomfield, Michigan. He received his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Notre Dame and his masters degree in English from Oakland University. He has run workshops for educators of all K-12 levels. The program he created at West Bloomfield High School is aligned with Michigan and National language arts educational benchmarks and workplace skills.
For four consecutive years, his students have received a "Best in Show" award at the Michigan Student Film Festival. Alumni of his program have gone on to NYU Film School, Columbia College Film School, the University of Michigan Film College, Michigan State University's Television Productions Department and Ferris State University's Electronic Media department. Ferris State has also recognized Walsh's high level of programming and given his advanced students college credit for their high school work. Past students have been selected for the Sundance Writers Workshop, worked as animators for Cartoon Network's "Clone Wars," worked on films such as The Dark Knight and Fred Claus, worked for ABC Sports, and won second place at the Slamdance Film Festival.
His innovative technique was also featured in a book by Warren Berger and Phil Koeghan (host of CBS's The Amazing Race) , No Opportunity Wasted.
In 2006 he published Video Direct through Teacher’s Discovery, a book he wrote to address the growing need for a language arts program that addressed the need for students to think critically about the media they encounter each day. Video Direct has been implemented in classrooms in over 40 states.
While Video Direct was written for high school students, these workshops can be adjusted for all levels of education.
The six workshops may be scheduled individually or in combination for your staff workshops or small groups of staff or students. |
